Frequently Asked Questions

How much will it cost to retain a lawyer?

Prices vary as we charge per hour for the work completed on your case. Attorney Watkins currently charges $300/hour and work performed by a legal assistant is billed at $100/hour. During your consultation, we will give you an estimate on the number of hours that are needed to complete your case. Cases requiring a hearing usually require 10 hours of work.

How long will it take to complete my case?

Generally, divorce proceedings that include the separation of property, alimony, child custody, and child support take about 1-3 years to be resolved completely. You will have hearing dates for each claim and the court’s docket may full on your court date which would push your case out further than expected.

Can my attorney’s fees be reimbursed?

Yes. In cases involving child custody, child support, post-separation support, and alimony the judge may grant you a reimbursement of attorney’s fees from your ex. To separate the marital property (equitable distribution) you cannot get a reimbursement of attorney’s fees.

How will you provide me with updates?

Our clients have access to both their attorney and a legal assistant to provide them with case updates and answer any questions. Clients can call, email, or set up a meeting with their attorney to get updates on their case.
